It is time to end the monopoly of the few companies controlling this sector. Competition is needed to make the companies improve the level of service they provide, currently users are limited to the company in their area and the companies can provide appalling service with no redress.

Having experienced problems with my own water company - being chased for bill payments that had already been made, errors on my account, total lack of basic customer service. I then contacted the Consumer Council for Water for help, they eventually contacted me to advise that they are inundated with complaints, months later I am still waiting for help from them.
