Require drivers to report hitting a cat, and scans for cats hit by a car

Make it a legal requirement for drivers to report when a cat has been hit in a road traffic accident. The police or relevant local authority should then be required to ensure that any cats hit by a car is scanned for a microchip in order to inform their owner, before the cat is disposed of.

The Government need to have this law in place in order to ensure that these incidents are reported, and to help grieving owners and to give a family some closure when their pet is missing. There should be consequences in place for those who don't stop and or don't report the accident such as a large fine. Scanning for microchip must also be a legal requirement in order to help families have closure which can benefit mental health.
