The government should pass laws to make sure supermarkets and other food sellers publish clearly the carbon footprint of each item, including the air miles required. This should be done in a traffic light system in order to increase consumer awareness of the carbon footprint of our diets.

The aim is to encourage people to buy items that are grown locally, and to encourage people to pick produce that has travelled the fewest air miles.
