Councils are legally required to complete Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs) within 20 weeks of the initial request for assessment. However, councils sometimes fail to do this within the time frame.

There needs be harsher penalties for councils and more monitoring of councils who are failing our children.
Parents have had awful experiences trying to get their child’s EHCP from their local authority, with some having to go to an ombudsman. Many children are out of education due to lack of special needs placements, resulting in children not receiving their basic human rights of an education. Councils must be held accountable.
