Fund an increase to the school meal allowance in line with inflation

The school meal allowance is £2.30 and has been since Universal Infant Free School Meals were introduced in 2014. The costs of food and labour have increased significantly in the past 7 years and companies supplying meals are struggling to cover costs, if this continues they will be forced to fold.

Often it is small local businesses that supply school meals and employ local people. They employ parents of primary school children who struggle to find jobs that fit with school times and holidays.

These businesses will be forced to make redundancies or offer fewer choices of meals which would impact many families.
