Treat under and over 35s the same for Universal Credit housing allowance

Under 35s should not have a lesser entitlement for housing costs than people aged 35 and over. Someone aged under 35 has the same housing needs as someone aged 35 and over. All adults should be treated equally under these rules.

I am 29 years old. I am signed off from work due to my Mental Health condition. When I started claiming benefits, I found out that I was only entitled to a lower rate because I am under 35 years old.

I recently used a benefits calculator to find out how much I am missing out on. If I was 36 years old, I would be entitled to over £300 more than what I am currently getting.

There's no reason why I and other under 35s should be penalised for being younger than someone else!
