Currently carrying a licence is optional and if a police officer wants to check the licence of the driver, and they do not have it on them, they have to show their licence at the station within 7 days.

This can make it easier for offenders to give false details to officers regarding their entitlement to drive, and then not showing up to produce their licence.

It is time to update the laws.
