The Ministerial code states “holders of public office should be truthful” and “It is of paramount importance that ministers give accurate and truthful information to parliament, correcting any inadvertent error at the earliest opportunity." Changing the rules would therefore support compliance with the Code, ensuring that any wrong information given by MPs is swiftly corrected. Those MPs that make accusations of dishonesty are sanctioned by the existing rules, which is wrong.
