The Government and Parliament must urgently review the integrated review and future soldier programmes. The strategic dynamics that the review was based on have considerably changed. The Armed Forces must be increased, to provide a credible deterrant to hostile aggression.

The Armed Forces have considerably shrunk in size whilst we have enjoyed relative peace in Europe. That has now changed. Eastern hostile nations no longer view our armed forces as a credible deterrent to commit atrocities in sovereign countries. Global Britain has strategic interest and trading partners all around the world that require defending. Outside of Europe and NATO our soft power has a limited backbone of hard power. To enable the UK to stand up globally the spine needs strengthening.
