Ban abortion after 24 weeks on the grounds of severe disability

It is legal to terminate a pregnancy after 24 weeks if there is a substantial risk that if the child were born it would be seriously handicapped. We believe the law should be amended, so late abortions are only permitted if it is clear the mother or child cannot survive.

Currently a pregnancy can be terminated up to full term on the grounds of severe disability, including Down's syndrome, even if the baby shows every typical sign of life.

We believe that abortions should not be permitted after 24 weeks on the basis of severe disability.
