Extend the Service Pupil Premium (SPP) to Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

SPP is allocated from primary school age but often children’s education is already disrupted. Many service families move 7 times or more and experience temporary parental separation, potentially disrupting behaviour, relationships, mental health, learning and attainment.

Children's brains develop more from 0-5 years than any other time in their lives. Children of service personnel are at risk of falling behind and the best time to help them is in the early years.

Statistically service children are less likely to go to university. This could be improved with the right support and opportunities from an early age. SPP funding during EYFS should enable additional staff, staff training and resources to tackle issues affecting children of military families. SPP is needed at the start where it matters most
