Review how patients are diagnosed and treated under the Mental Health Act

The Government should review how the Mental Health Act can be improved to better support the diagnosis, treatment and admittance of patients to holding facilities. This review should look at how mental capacity is observed and determined, and the durations and rights of those under observation.

The protocols of diagnosing a mental health illness and medicinal remedies administered within holding observation facilities before a diagnosis has been properly reached needs reviewing. Remedies that are used and offered need a formal diagnosis before they are given.
