Stop the proposed ban on tethering birds of prey

DEFRA is consulting on plans to ban routine tethering of birds of prey and tethering for public display. If the ban goes ahead, this may mean very many falconry centres will have to close down as they won’t be able to meet the new standards.

The proposed ban is part of the Government’s consultation on Standards of Modern Zoo Practice. We are concerned the Government is listening to animal rights activists instead of the people who work in the animal husbandry industry, who best know the impact this would have and who would be most affected by this. A ban in zoos also risks being a first step towards a ban on these practices in private ownership too.
