Fund increase in police officers in line with population

The Government should fund an increase in police officer numbers nationally, in line with the increasing population. In London, for example, Metropolitan police numbers increased by 2.5% between 2012 and 2022, however the London population has increased by around 11% during that time.

To maintain the same number of police officers per person, London would have needed an additional 3,537 more police during that period, however there are just 795 more.

This increased funding should help police forces to tackle anti-social behaviour and criminal activity more effectively.
