Treat Maternity Allowance the same as SMP when claiming other benefits

I am campaigning for mothers that claim Maternity Allowance to have this treated in the same way as SMP when they are claiming other benefits, including the same UC taper rate of 55 pence (SMP) rather than £1 (MA) and for Maternity Allowance not to be affected by the benefit cap.

Most employees are entitled to SMP (Statutory Maternity Pay) for the first 39 weeks of their maternity leave. However, many mothers, including those are self-employed, are only entitled to Maternity Allowance. Whilst both offer financial support, Maternity Allowance does not come with the same rights as SMP. The taper rate for SMP is 55p and MA is £1. Meaning that for every £100 received UC will take an extra £45. Maternity Allowance is also affected by the benefit cap, mean some claimants may receive a reduced or no amount.
