Mandatory Mental Health Training for all educational and early years staff

We ask the Government to make mental health training mandatory for all educational and early years staff from nursery schools through to universities. All staff in the education services should be trained to identify mental health issues, and also signpost students to relevant support networks.

Mandatory training should help aid early detection of poor mental health in children/adolescents and parents and carers. It can provide further opportunities for early intervention and support. Enabling confidence in people working directly with young people to be able to sign post to support services.
