Extend rules on listing ingredients and recall of food for humans to pet food

We want the Government to extend existing legislation governing listing ingredients and recall of food for human consumption to pet food. There are strict requirements on listing ingredients and recall of food for human for consumption, but much less strict rules apply to pet food.

Currently pet food can include generic language about 'derivatives' in the list of ingredients, as opposed to food for human consumption where specific ingredients must be listed. There are also strict requirements for the recall of food for human consumption where a safety issue is identified, but these do not apply to pet food. This can mean that food that is harmful to pets remains on the market. This must change.
