Too many social media sites host adverts that turn out to be scams. Victims can end up losing significant sums of money, with no recourse.

Social media sites hosting adverts can and should check the veracity of advertisers before publishing ads. Fines for publishing adverts that turn out to be scams would create financial incentives to do so.
