Extend the offence of parking in a designated disabled space to car parks

It is only an offence to park a car in a designated disabled space on a public road. We want the law amended, so it is an offence to park in designated disabled spaces in car parks. This would mean local authorities could take action against people who use these spaces when they are not disabled.

Councils are unable to take enforcement action against incorrect use of disabled parking spaces – with a maximum fine of £1,000 – in car parks. This can lead to lack of access for legitimate users.

Fines for misuse of clearly marked disabled bays in car parks could also provide revenue, and hopefully lead to a rise in compliance that would help ensure disabled people equity of access.
