Reform the Honours System and make it independent of Government

We want the Honours System to be reformed so honours are granted only to those who perform acts of exceptional bravery or humanitarianism and those in the voluntary sector who do exceptional work for the community, charity or the environment. Honours should be granted independent of the Government.

We believe the current system results in a disproportionate number of honours going to politicians, public servants and public figures who have performed only what was expected of them in their employment or positions. Indeed, some honours appear to reward mediocracy or failure and there have been political nominations of questionable virtue.
