Single parents of children under 11 should also benefit from the same household tax rates.

Example:

Family 1: only one person works and earns £120,000

Family 2: two people earn £60,000

Family 1 receives approximately £13,000 less after all tax and NI is taken.

Although there is free childcare available, many families don’t want to use childcare in early years and shouldn’t be penalised for doing so.

The US and other countries apply a similar concept.
