Travel ban on Ugandan MPs and clergy who supported Anti-Homosexuality Bill

On 21 March Ugandan MPs approved legislation that will further criminalise LGBT+ people and their allies. It reinforces existing legislation banning gay sex, and bans LGBT+ identities and the 'promotion of homosexuality', with penalties including imprisonment and the death penalty.

UN experts have said this legislation is "an egregious violation of human rights."

We call for this travel ban in response to requests by LGBT+ Ugandan activists, who have asked the international community to secure action to stop the Bill and support their human rights. The Bill now awaits President Museveni's signature. We must discourage him from signing and penalise those who have voted or advocated in favour of the Bill. Travel bans are known to be one effective way of impacting those responsible for tyrannical legislation.
