Create a HM Prison service veterans badge in line with military veterans badge

Create an official HM prison service veterans badge. The military have an official veterans badge to recognise their service and HMP staff should be similarly recognised. HMP staff are verbally abused, assaulted, attacked with various weapons, including biological hazards, and manage self-harm.

HMP staff receive a long service medal for 20 years of continuous service. However, if staff leave before they reach 20 years’ service, they do not receive this medal. Many leave before with physical or psychological damage sustained in the course of carrying out their duties. Or simply because they do not feel valued or safe. HMP staff put themselves in harms way on a daily basis, working with some of the most violent and or psychologically damaged people in society. A badge is a small token.
