Review police handling of cases involving vulnerable suspects

I have seen how the police can mismanage cases involving vulnerable suspects, especially when the suspect has mental health issues, learning disabilities, autism or ADHD. I want the Government to review police handling of cases involving vulnerable suspects, and consider how this could be improved.

The Government needs to ensure that vulnerable suspects, including those with mental health issues, learning disabilities, autism or ADHD, are treated fairly by the police, and are not disadvantaged by having a condition or criminalised for something which could have been averted.

The review could look at improving training for police officers on how to handle and communicate with vulnerable suspects, requiring the use body cameras, and how suspects can be referred to mental health services.
