Extend support for maritime training to those on the Homes for Ukraine scheme

We ask the Government to amend the eligibility criteria, which are indicated for example guidance notes MGN455 and MIN 486, for support for maritime training (SMarT), to extend this to Ukrainian nationals in the UK as part of the Homes for Ukraine scheme, given the current situation in Ukraine.

Ukraine has a long maritime history, and we are asking the Government to give Ukrainian nationals living in the UK a chance to fulfil their dream of studying here and serving this country. We believe there are many Ukrainian nationals who are here on the Homes for Ukraine scheme who have a passion for learning and are ready to do whatever it takes to secure their future.

Currently SMarT funding is only available for candidates who are a national of a Member State of the European Economic Area, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. We want this to be extended to include Ukrainian nationals here on the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
