We urge the Government to require local councils to allow victims of domestic abuse to be simultaneously registered on multiple housing registers while applying for council flats. Despite guidance, the reality is that many councils don’t allow you to be on multiple lists.

As a survivor of Domestic Abuse, I know the immense challenges of living in temporary accommodation while waiting for a council flat. Ensuring that survivors can be on multiple housing registers by making it a legal requirement would let us move away from the area where the abuse happened and also speed up the allocation process. This change is vital for our safety and well-being. The current system makes it hard for survivors to rebuild our lives.
