Currently the law does not specifically prevent discrimination on the basis of a person's immigration status, or treat crimes motivated by someone's immigration status as a hate crime. We want this to change.

The Equality Act makes discrimination on the basis of nationality or ethnicity illegal, and crimes motivated by race are treated as hate crimes. We want this legislation to be extended to include immigration status.

We believe current laws permit xenophobia, and the spreading of hateful ideas. Some migrants face discrimination and hate crimes on the basis of their immigration, but current laws do not adequately recognise this.
