Protect Trans People’s Right to Treatment on Gender-Appropriate NHS Wards

The Health Secretary announced plans to ban trans people from medical treatment by the NHS on women- and men-only hospital wards in England. We believe this is unreasonable, dangerous and illegal and, whatever their own views, the Government cannot and must not allow it to go ahead.

We believe this ban would violate the section of the Equality Act of 2010 which protects trans people from discrimination, and could endanger trans health and trans lives.

The Health Secretary has declared that this measure is for "the protection of women and future generations", when we fear it will actively exclude certain women and members of future generations. We believe this proposal is both unethical and inhumane, and will put the health of people living in England at risk.
