Give leaseholders the legal right to install heat pumps

Currently, the freeholders of property can deny the installation of the outside units, and this can stop leaseholders from installing more environmentally friendly heating.

I personally have been denied by my freeholder (the council) from installing an outside unit heat pump. This has limited my access to cheap and environmentally-friendly heating.

The Government is offering £5,000 (£7,500 from 23 October) grants to install heat pumps, but these leasehold flat owners cannot access these if the freeholder refuses permission for the installation of a heat pump.

The UK can't expect to get everyone onto energy efficient forms of heating, as long as freeholders have the right to deny their requests to install the outside units.
