Retaining the Chagos Islands and developing them could benefit many UK citizens who could farm, fish, or do tourism. The Maldives does well out of tourism and is not far away. There are lots of islands which do well from these things. The descendants of the Chagos Islands' former inhabitants living in the UK could be invited to benefit from the development of these islands.
