Make recommendations of pay awards bodies binding on Government

Pay rises for MPs are implemented automatically, and the Government appears to be sympathetic to pay increases for civil servants. Recommendations by other pay review bodies are often subject to delay, or not implemented in full. We want recommendations by all pay awards bodies to be binding.

We want legislation enshrining the independence of pay review bodies in law, and making their recommendations binding on the Government, with pay increases implemented on the same day for all public sector workers for which there are pay review bodies. This would mean that, as with decisions by IPSA about pay for MPs, the Government would not be able to delay or adjust decisions by pay review bodies.
