We believe the Government should commission a review to look at the care provided to babies on cardiac wards. This should look at the qualifications and experience of those on the wards and relationship between staff and parents.

We believe the people looking after severe cardiac babies pre and post op should be highly qualified to care for them and have a high level of knowledge and understanding around cardiac care. Communications between nurses and parents with such small babies undergoing open heart surgery should be sensitive and appropriate.
