We believe the new medical doctor apprenticeship will mean apprentices are conducting the same work as clinically placed medical students, but with the apprentices being paid for their work. During clinical placement, medical students may have similar responsibilities and be expected to perform work to an equal standard as the medical apprentices, without any compensation. Compensating students for time on placement is a good way to help students fund their ever-increasing living and traveling costs during their placements.
