Do not strip GPs of the right to sign patients off sick

We think that GPs must decide if we are fit to work or not. GPs are highly trained and have a duty to ensure that people's health comes first. Don't proceed with proposals to shift the role of GPs to sign patients off sick to “work and health professionals”.

Most people have times when they are too unwell to work. We think it would be dangerous and damaging if GPs can no longer issue sick notes. Stopping GPs being able to grant a sick note could risk people feeling they have to work when they are unwell, and could even mean pay and jobs end up at risk. We think stripping GPs of this right could be a dangerous and harmful move.
