New rules on internal exclusions and independent body to be established

We think removing children from classrooms, sometimes called "internal exclusion", is misused. We think the Government needs to replace current advice with definitive rules. Introduce an independent body where complaints about internal exclusion, detention, and other exclusion are reviewed.

We think the excessive use of internal exclusion is having a detrimental effect on young people and limiting their education, frequently for the wrong reasons. Many children are fearful in school due to the sudden and volatile nature that detentions and internal exclusions are given. We think teachers are ill equipped or inexperienced so resort to bullish behaviours and the misuse of sanctions.
Schools need to be held to account.
