Reintroduce the Help to Buy Equity Loan Scheme for First-Time Buyers

We urge the Government to reintroduce the Help to Buy equity loan scheme, offering first-time buyers up to 20% (or 40% in London) on new-build homes. We believe the scheme should be open to all eligible buyers and accepted by all developers.

The Help to Buy equity loan scheme enabled hundreds of thousands of people to purchase a home. The new scheme, the First Homes scheme, offers up to 30–50% discounts but it has been reported that there has been slow uptake. We believe reintroducing Help to Buy could address this gap, support first-time buyers, and strengthen the housing market.
