Require nurseries and early years providers to make social media pages private

We urge the Government to pass a law which requires all nurseries and early years childcare providers to make their social media pages private. We believe this could help protect children's personal data, privacy and safety online.

Many UK nurseries use social media platforms to share updates, activities and photos involving children. While this may help to engage parents, some of these pages are public and accessible to anyone online. We believe this creates serious risks; children may be identified, tracked or targeted, personal data may be exposed, safeguarding best practices may not be enforced in this context. We believe social media activity involving children should be secure and safe.
