Make provision for a Global BBC licence fee

The BBC is funded by the national licence fee which means it is impacted by other cost pressures and competing demands. However, many overseas residents admire the BBC content and may choose to pay for access to this, which in turn, we think could be a new revenue stream for the BBC.

We think this would be an opportunity to raise the profile of free press and independently validated news content.
We think it would provide access to content which challenges the status quo, but also is good old fashioned entertainment of the highest quality.
We think it could provide a new revenue stream which would support competition with international streaming services.
We think it could release money currently spent on preventing inappropriate access to the BBC eg via VPN to be re-allocated to other priorities.
