Decouple electricity prices from gas and commit to phasing out fossil fuels

We ask Government to break the link between electricity and gas prices, which we think keeps bills unfairly high, and commit to phasing out fossil fuels. In doing so, reform the energy market, boost UK investment in renewables and storage and publish a clear plan to phase out fossil fuels in the UK.

The share of the UK's electricity generated from renewables, clean, often low-cost sources like wind and solar, has seen an overall trend of generally increasing over time, but bills remain high in part because prices are tied to gas. Continuing to use fossil fuels funds fossil fuel producers—some who may be in regimes linked to war or human rights abuses—while worsening the climate crisis. I believe that our money props up an outdated, polluting system whilst millions face fuel poverty. I think reforming the market in the way I've proposed would help lower bills, reduce emissions, boost UK energy independence, and align our values with a fairer, cleaner future.
