Hold a London-wide referendum on leaving the GLA, and giving the GLA more powers

We call on Parliament to pass a law for the Government to hold a London-wide referendum about whether electors in councils in London want to leave the Greater London Authority, and councils whose electors vote to leave can become independent of the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority.

We want the Government to legislate so the Greater London Assembly can block the mayor’s plans by a simple majority vote.

As a voter in a London council, I want to vote for my council to leave the GLA and not be subject to the decisions of the Mayor of London. Over the past 25 years, I have been concerned about London mayors pursuing their own political objectives, regardless of public opinion, and a lack of means to challenge this.
