Review legislation aimed at preventing corruption in public office. Consider creating a new independent body responsible for ensuring public officials cannot profit from private industry through their roles, both during and after their time in office.
The public must have confidence that officials act in the national interest, not for personal or corporate gain. Corruption, lobbying, and the “revolving door” between government and industry damage democracy and trust. The law should ensure transparency, and attract individuals driven by service—not profit. We believe a review and new independent body could improve integrity, policy outcomes, and restore faith in public institutions.
