Require family judges to complete LGBTQ+ family sensitivity training

Make LGBTQ+ family sensitivity training compulsory for judges before sitting family cases, developed with LGBTQ+ family charities. We believe this could help to address any unconscious bias and protect the rights and welfare of children and parents.

Family judges make life-changing decisions for children and parents. We think that without specialist training, unconscious bias could unfairly affect LGBTQ+ families. We believe mandatory sensitivity training would give judges a better understanding of modern parenting, reduce prejudice, and help ensure decisions are based on children’s best interests. In our view, this could protect families and increase public trust in the family court system.
