Ban the use of smart glasses with recording capability in public spaces

We ask the Government to ban smart glasses with cameras in public spaces. We believe they allow secret filming, and undermine privacy, safety and the public’s right to know when they’re being recorded.

Such technology poses risks:
Privacy: UK GDPR/Data Protection Act gives people a reasonable expectation of privacy, which covert recording undermines.
Safety: Victims of abuse, stalking, or harassment, and vulnerable groups like children, may be identified or tracked.
Copyright: Secret recording of performances or events can breach protections.
Accountability: CCTV/bodycams are regulated, but we are concerned smart glasses could bypass safeguards.

The Government must urgently ban them.
