All newly elected MPs must complete a six month probationary period

All newly elected MPs should complete a six month probation. Unlike many other jobs, they can get a full term with what we feel is limited accountability. An independent panel should review performance, and MPs deemed unsuitable should face removal. We think this would help ensure MPs honour pledges

We’re fed up with MPs who we think are making promises to win votes, and might then be able to dodge accountability for five years. We think a six month probationary period, reviewed by an independent panel, would help ensure MPs prove their competence and keep pledges. MPs deemed unsuitable by the panel could be removed. We think this would align politics with other jobs’ accountability standards. It could help rebuild trust, and help ensure MPs serve the public, not themselves.
