Swim England suggest that around 1 in 3 children leave primary school unable to swim 25m, despite it being in the national curriculum. Children from poorer families are far less likely to access lessons. Early, free lessons for ages 3–16 could build life-saving skills, boost health and confidence, and reduce inequalities. Swimming is not just sport—it is a vital survival skill that can prevent tragedies and help lower long-term emergency and healthcare costs.
