People pay a large amount of money to travel by train, even though it is one of the most sustainable and efficient modes of transport. If a train is overcrowded, especially as a result of delays, it is unfair to make people stand when there is seating in first class available. It can also be less safe, prevent people from accessing the toilets and can cause further delays and discomfort as people struggle to reach the exits.
