Mandate all teachers in mainstream schools receive SEN & mental health training

Fund mandatory SEN and mental health training for all teachers. We are concerned that many children with special educational needs are being failed, as mainstream staff often lack the skills and qualifications to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Many children with SEN in mainstream schools are struggling due to untrained staff and lack of support. Some families are told there is “no funding,” and help can be denied until attendance collapses. This can cause lasting emotional harm, while parents face fines or court action. Mandatory SEN and mental health training could ensure early, effective support, improve attendance, and protect children’s wellbeing.
