Government should stop using farm when referring to electricity generation sites

The Government should prohibit the use of the word farm in reference to electricity generation facilities such as “solar farms” or “wind farms” in official documents. Instead, we would like the Government to use terms such as “Electric Generation Site (EGS)” or “Renewable Generation Facility (RGF).”

We believe the term “farm” refers to land used for growing crops or rearing animals. Electricity is not grown or reared. Solar and wind sites convert energy into electricity through mechanical or photovoltaic systems. We believe referring to them as “farms” misleads the public and confuses land use. The Government should replace these terms with ones we believe are more accurate, like “Electric Generation Site (EGS)” or “Renewable Generation Facility (RGF).”
