Legislate to enforce timely payment of workplace pensions

We call on the Government to legislate for timely payment of workplace pensions, including a guarantee of the first payment to be paid within 31 days of someone retiring. This period must commence on the agreed date of retirement, including the payment of lump sums.

We believe without this change many people will continue to be impacted by the poor management of workplace pensions, in the public and private sectors. It can negatively and significantly impact financial security and wellbeing of those retiring from work, as well as on occasion negatively impacting mental and physical health. Not paying pensions, sometimes for months, cannot be allowed to continue.
