Review UK-Eritrea relations and protect Eritrean refugees & activists in the UK

Launch a review of UK-Eritrea relations, including whether engagement with Eritrea should be conditioned on measurable human rights improvements. The review should also examine Eritrean government-linked events and media activity in the UK to ensure Eritreans in the UK can live and advocate safely.

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Eritrea, as well as human rights organisations like Human Rights Watch, have raised serious concerns about human rights in Eritrea, including indefinite national service, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detention, and restrictions on freedom of expression and religion. There are also reports of intimidation and targeting of Eritreans abroad, including the UK. We believe the UK Government must act to uphold human rights, protect refugees, and ensure Eritreans in the UK can participate in advocacy and public life without fear.
